What Causes Excessive Sweating – The Facts!

There are a variety of causes for excess sweating.  The condition of excess sweating is commonly known as Hyperhydrosis.  There are two different types of Hyperhydrosis with different causes. Fortunately, it is not a serious medical problem, although it can cause embarrassment in professional and social situations.  Many people are looking for cures for excess sweating.  There are a lot of people out there peddling different remedies, some of which are effective, and some of which are very expensive for very little effect.  The facts about what causes excessive sweating can be hard to find amongst all the marketing hype, but here I will at least to try to give you the facts!

The first kind is known as Primary Focal Hyperhydrosis.  Unfortunately there isn’t a known cure for Primary Focal Hyperhydrosis.  It is thought to run in families, and therefore is probably a congenital defect.  It often develops during adolescence, and is characterized by excess sweating from focal points such as the armpits, groin, head, hands and feet.  These areas are where the sweat glands are clustered, and consequently tend to be the trouble spots. Primary Focal Hyperhydrosis is also tends to be symmetrical; for example the sweating will be the same on both sides of the body such as in both armpits.

Unfortunately there is no known cure for this problem.  Because there is no route cause which can as-yet be identified it is there for not possible to cure in the same way as acquired medical conditions.  However it is manageable and there are effective treatments available.

The second cause of excessive sweating is Secondary Focal Hyperhydrosis.  This has many of the same symptoms as Primary Focal Hyperhydrosis, but has a very different route cause.  Secondary Focal Hyperhydrosis can be caused by a number of ailments; these include strokes, heart disease, menopause and certain types of medication.  It tends to develop after adolescence as the medical condition which causes the sweating manifests itself.

The good news is that because it has an identifiable route cause, the excess sweating can be stopped.  By treating the route cause of the sweat, it is possible to eliminate the problem entirely.  Of course, in this case excess sweating is also an indicator of an underlying problem.  While this is an unattractive prospect, it is always best to be safe rather than sorry!  If you are sweating excessively then it always worth consulting a doctor.  While many people are embarrassed by the condition it is very common and can be dealt with through a variety of methods.

Of course sweating can also be caused by other conditions such as anxiety.  Some people find that dedicated anti depressant medication has a positive effect on their sweat levels.  Sufferers also tend to find that tight clothes made of synthetic fabrics cause excess sweating too.

Making small changes to your behavior can make a big difference to excess sweating.  Remember, there are several different route causes and the best treatment is to find the cause of your excessive sweating.
